When occupational safety specialists are needed
The employer must call in occupational safety specialists if necessary in order to guarantee occupational safety in the company. This is particularly necessary if the requisite specialist knowledge is lacking for the following tasks:
- systematic identification of hazards;
- assessment of associated risks;
- definition of suitable protective measures, or
- setting up the safety system.
FCOS Directive 6508 “Involvement of occupational physicians and other occupational safety specialists (ASA Directive)” sets out in concrete terms the employer’s obligation to involve occupational safety specialists. Occupational safety specialists are occupational physicians, occupational hygienists, safety engineers, occupational health and safety specialists and safety experts.
The following expert societies maintain lists of occupational safety specialists. These lists show whether the specialists have fulfilled the training requirement and can therefore support your company.
