How company visits and inspections are conducted
Suva, the cantonal labour inspectorates and the Federal Labour Inspectorate SECO carry out company visits and inspections on behalf of FCOS. A company visit may include, for example, consultations, workplace inspections or ASA preliminary assessments.
A company inspection serves to verify compliance with the provisions on occupational health and safety, with the inspection being documented and any necessary measures being defined.
Company visits and inspections in connection with the ASA system are especially important:
ASA preliminary assessment
The preliminary assessment serves to provide information on the current situation regarding occupational safety in a company. It is a much shorter version of the full ASA system inspection.
ASA system inspection
An ASA system inspection looks at whether and how a company systematically carries out its occupational health and safety duties. The safety system is examined for any deficiencies with the help of a monitoring questionnaire. If deficiencies are identified, measures are agreed with the company to rectify them. Companies are divided into four different categories for the purpose of system inspections, with a distinction being made between companies with and without “special hazards” (see FCOS Directive 6508 “ASA Directive”).
